Creative Resemblance

There is creativity and imagination where ever you go! Rog and I were in a sports bar waiting for dinner and had a couple of drinks. I took my drink and his lime and created a new drink that I now call The Bloody Duck! Can you see the resemblance with Elmer? I know, I had too much time on my hands (or too much to drink) lol, time to be back creating. I will upload a photo of a wall quilt that I soon have finished!

O.K. a bit of an update, Got the wall quilt finished. With the colors and feathers, you can see it was Elmer inspired too!

The family album

I couldn't help but add more photos of our growing family. I love taking photos of them as they are so photogenic. Ivy is as graceful as a swan!

O.K. so maybe Elmer isn't the most handsome creature on the face of the earth. As you can see here, his feathers on his head are in full bristle. lol He wasn't too keen at getting to have a full head shot.

Normally it is flat and behaved.

This little guy's name is Hot Wings. He has the darkest markings of the bunch. He was certainly a lot darker a few weeks ago. Don't you just love his dark brown eyes? The same color as Ivy's. Elmer's eyes are more hazel. Seems all of the duckie doodles have brown. Wonder if any will change as they are older.

This one's name is Puddles. Such a soft and cuddly color. Click on her photo and check out her little tail feathers. Too funny!

This one is named Webster. Unfortunately, he is the loner of the bunch. Everyone keeps picking on him so he usually swims in the pond by himself and has a different eating schedule from the other little duckies.

This one is Evinrude. He got his name quite honest and boy can he make tracks across the water! Look at him go!

This one's name is Flapper. Quite a difference in size! He has to grow into his wings a bit, but he sure does like to flap his stubby little bits!

This is Feathers, isn't she a sweetie?

Here's Puddles, Feathers, and Crackers having lunch together.

This is Beaker going for a swim

It's hard to tell who is who in this photo, as I mix the two pairs up with their markings, but at any rate, Here's Crackers, Flapper, Beaker and Drumstick. We have lost some little guys along the way, so we are down to 9 little ducklings.

Going Green

Lately it seems that many art trade lists are recycling. It's a good way to use up what you have to avoid waste and trash build up and also to think more artistically outside of the box. This clutch bag was a result of a recycled deflated mylar balloon from Valentines Day.

My Millie doll is a result of a catfood can and a soda can cut for other body parts.

Without spending a lot of green, you can go green!

Happy Mother's Day!

Swimming Lessons

10 ducks shown, one was with mama Ivy

Elmer Jr. Playing king of the feeder

I couldn't imagine being a happier mother than Ivy is with all of her little ducklings. Unfortunately there is a bit of sadness as there are now only 11:( There is one that is all black. I guess we should call that one Elmer Jr. He's a fiesty one and seems he wants to be first at everything. lol I don't know how many are girls or boys at this point. I guess we shall wait and see.

Mother's Day for me us usually a lonely one. The kids are grown and gone, so Mother's Day is just memories away. I wonder if Ivy will feel that way too when they decide to leave home.

A Piece of Humble Pie?

I promised to post my pear pie recipe for Dove awhile back, so my humble apologies for getting around to it much later than anticipated. It's so quick and oh so delicious! I am not one to eat pears, so this was an unexpected surprise to be so fabulous! My sister made this recipe several years ago when I had gone to visit her and it's become another one of our favorites. You can eat it warm or cold with a nice scoop of whip topping. I love to grate some fresh nutmeg on top. I have made this with peaches too, but canned peaches are so soggy, so fresh peaches might be better. Enjoy!

Pear Pie

1 ready made Keebler shortbread pie crust ( find it in the isle with the grahm cracker crusts) or you can make your own shortbread crust recipe.

1 small can of pears (15.5 oz)
1 cup whipping cream
3/4 cup of sugar
2 TBS of flour
cinnamon and nutmeg

Drain pears and dice. Place in the bottom of the shortbread crust. With a whisk, whip up whipping cream, sugar and flour. Pour over pears and sprinkle on cinnamon and nutmeg. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 50-60 min.

A Baker's Dozen!

I knew we would be cutting it close and were taking bets on when Ivy's ducklings would hatch. I figured somewhere between the 4-6th of May by calculating the time she started to incubate her eggs. Our trip to Seattle meant we wouldn't be back until the 6th. We had a gal come over to the house every day to feed our animals while we were gone and she said she saw a beak peaking out from under Ivy the morning that we were to be back, but by afternoon, there wasn't any thing in the nest except the 5 eggs that were discolored and didn't hatch. It had rained all day and poor Debby stressed over something happening to them and afraid something got them or the fact that they drown in the over flooded creekbed. Ivy must have found another hiding place for her precious little guys. This afternoon she had them out for a swimming lesson! We had lots of rain and they were learning how in the big standing puddles near the pond. They were so cute running around mamma! Out of 18 eggs, she was able to hatch 13, a lucky baker's dozen! (Click on the photo and if you look closely, you will be able to count all 13 babies)
